Tori Stackhouse is from Millbrook, Alabama and graduated May, 2016 from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Ecology and Management. In the fall, she will pursue her masters in Criminal Justice/Homeland Security at Auburn University, Montgomery and has her goals set to work as a Federal Game Warden where she can both serve and protect while conserving wildlife and other natural resources.
She served as President for The Wildlife Society Auburn Chapter and was active in community programs during her tenure to further the professional development experience within Wildlife for students by planning and scheduling guest speakers and programming. She served as an Auburn University Ambassador for the Wildlife & Forestry school to showcase the department. Tori sought opportunities during her undergraduate studies to work with graduate students and professors in research to broaden her experience to include coyote density and movement studies, bat trapping in mist and harp nets for banding and testing for White Nose Syndrome, darting deer and collecting data, alligator tagging, bear tagging, cottontail rabbit data collection.
She worked an internship position in the summer of 2015 in Oakmulgee Wildlife Management Association where she was involved in wild pig trapping, dove trapping, and banding. This also gave her opportunity to hone skills for clearing downed trees and overall maintenance of a Wildlife Management facility. The summer of 2014, Tori worked at the Alabama Homeland Security division learning how departments work together and exchange information.
Tori is a certified to teach in the classroom and in the water as a Scuba Dive Control Specialist and works with Adventure Sports II in Auburn, Alabama. She holds certifications as a SSI Diver/Stress and Rescue Diver through Scuba Schools International. She serves as a lifeguard, lifeguard instructor, and a swim instructor and is certified in First Aid/CPR/AED/O2 Instructor. Other passions include horseback riding, traveling, volunteering in disaster and humanitarian relief capacities.
In this position, Tori is hopeful that experiences will stretch both her knowledge and physical abilities as she is exposed to new techniques and methods for management practices. She would like to thank Dr. Carney for his support of the internship program at St Mark’s Refuge, as it provides much hands on experience.
