Friends Active Initiatives and Projects
The Friends organization provides funding for interns who do valuable work in Wildlife Conservation and Environmental Education. Your donations make this support possible.
Wildlife Conservation
Donations support our conservation biology interns who assist refuge biologists in their work to protect endangered species such as the Red-cockaded Woodpecker and Frosted Flatwoods Salamander. This support is made possible by generous contributions from our sponsors and donations from our Friends.
Funding for the Monarch Milkweed initiative, including funding for an intern and equipment and supplies to protect and expand habitat for Monarch butterflies.
Funds for restoration of Long-leaf Pine forests on the Refuge.
Environmental Education
Funding for an environmental education interns who conduct environmental program outreach for children in regional schools .
Transportation scholarships to enable students, from schools with limited resources, to attend education programs at the Refuge.
Furnishings and equipment for the Education Building.
Lighthouse Preservation
Lighthouse preservation and on-going maintenance.
Additional Support
Ongoing support for the Monarch Butterfly Festival and The Wildlife, Heritage and Outdoors (WHO) Festival.
Equipment such as kayaks for environmental education activities.
Support for the printing costs of some of the refuge informational brochures.
Volunteer hours from Friends Board and other volunteers support activities and programs at the Refuge.
