Lighthouse Preservation
The St. Marks Lighthouse lives in a harsh environment: blazing sun, salt air, hurricane force winds and the normal wear and tear of thousands of visitors each year.
Maintaining this iconic structure is on-going and takes time and money. For example, hurricane Michael destroyed both staircases leading up to the lighthouse and did significant damage to the handicap ramp from the parking lot. The Friends organization was there to help fund the repairs and continues to help with ongoing maintenance costs.
Lighthouses need care too, as we are reminded by John Roberts in the video below.
If you are proud of the St. Marks lighthouse and want to help preserve it, you can help.
