Joel Steinbicker

Intern

Hello! I am Joel Steinbicker, a 2026 winter/spring intern at St.Marks NWR. I am from Cincinnati, Ohio and have always enjoyed the outdoors whether it was catching critters all summer in my backyard creek or visiting parks across the country. In my free time, I still enjoy hiking, fishing, and generally spending time outside whenever possible. I attended The Ohio State University and graduated with a B.S. in Biology and a minor in Forestry, Fisheries, and Wildlife. During my time at OSU, I worked in an Aquatic Ecology lab, completed undergraduate research, and volunteered in the fish division of the OSU Museum of Biological Diversity. I hope to continue working with and studying fish and/or aquatic ecology in the future.

I am looking forward to working at St. Marks and learning all about the local wildlife and management practices! It is a different ecosystem than I am used to, and am excited for all the challenges that come with it. I consider myself lucky to work with a group so passionate about such a special area. I hope to learn many new skills and contribute as much as I can while I am at the refuge. After my internship, my goal is to work more seasonal positions, building up my resume, exploring new areas, and preparing for graduate school. I can’t wait for my work to start and to explore St. Marks!”

Thank you for your warm welcome and again I look forward to working with you!
