Lighthouse Pool, as the name suggests, is directly across from the Lighthouse and at the end of Lighthouse Road. Park and take the short walk to the end of Levee Trail. There’s always a lot to see, both in the fresh water of the pool and in the Apalachee Bay. If you are up for it, you can make a loop completely around the pool and return to the Lighthouse parking lot

Because Lighthouse Pool is fresh water, it’s a favorite spot for several species of ducks, including Northern Shoveler, Gadwall, Canvasback, Redhead, American Wigeon, Green-winged Teal and Northern Pintail from September through November. In December through February you’ll find the Winter ducks: Hooded and Red-breasted Mergansers, Mallard, Lesser Scaup, American Black Duck, Ruddy, Bufflehead and Common Goldeneye.

Just out in the bay are old pilings which are usually occupied by Brown Pelicans, Cormorants and Anhingas. You might also spot Dolphin in the bay.
