Mounds #3 Closing

By Friends of the St. Marks Refuge • Reading Time 1 minute • Published November 23, 2020 • Birding Reports

Mounds 3 at the St. Marks Wildlife Refuge

Today I closed a section of the outer levee of Mounds #3 to reduce human disturbance to our wintering waterfowl. Since the flamingo has been recently using the north end of the pool, I started the north end of the closure at the center ditch (in direct line with the T-dike across the pool) where the flamingo is today so the public can still get good looks at the bird without disturbing most of the ducks. The south end of the closure is about 100 yards north of where the normal closure was at the south end of the pool. With the current water levels and bird use, this will allow the public to get relatively close to a duck and shorebird high use area with minimal disturbance.

Please pass the word and post the closure on our website. Thanks.
