Black Duck

A single Black Duck was present a couple hundred yards north of the south end of Mounds 3. The south end of Mounds 3 is one of the birdiest places on the refuge now. Although the refuge biologist is retiring at the end of this year, I suspect he will close access to the outer levee along Mounds 3 before long to prevent disturbance to the waterfowl. The Black Duck, where located today, would probably not be visible from outside the closed area. I have been in what will become the closed area several times this year and the ducks are not the least disturbed by my presence (just as it has been in years past).
The Am Flamingo was resting on an oyster bar with cormorants and Br Pelicans, best viewed from the covered picnic table on Lighthouse pond trail. If there, look for the Western Kingbird found by Don Morrow.
The first year female Vermilion Flycatcher was found a couple of islands north of its recent hangout. It was in the island with a red cedar and a couple of sabals in Stony Bayou 1 near Lighthouse Road. The former yaupon perch was being used by an E. Phoebe.
